But how did they manage to line up 2 cameras exactly in the same position?

iPhone has a HDR function too with the update.
It takes 3 shots with different enlighting and merges them.

Well technically it could be possible, but really it wouldn't be very high quality

HDR is taking 3 pictures, one at normal exposure, one at a low exposure and one at a high exposure. Then in (usually) a special program, the 3 images get combined to create insanely interesting and realistic depth, color, and lighting.
(I know this because my dad has done some HDR photography in his spare time )
