[Serious] Age restrictions

I was in town yesterday, and I tried to buy a lighter (at a dollar store). Then this guy (who can't of been much older then me) asked me for ID >.>. I didn't even know you had to be 'of age' to buy a lighter.

And I don't think I'm the first to get annoyed at silly restrictions.

- Needed ID to buy a screw driver.

You need ID to buy vehicle fuel. You need ID to buy plastic BBs. I'm guessing it's the same for renting movies that are rated over the age you are (and I'm not referring to porn)?

What do you think about useless age restrictions?

Hum restrictions doesn't have a sense !

Come on look if I want to buy a "firework" ( or something else ) and the store owner don't sell it to me because of that stupid restriction, I just
ask an older guy in the streets to go into the store and buy it for me ! It's so simple ! But applying the age restriction to buy a spoon or a lighter -_- just stupid !

I was able to get my brother to buy it :3.

Re: Age restrictions

I know many 14 year old kids who get cigarettes and booze.
In Belgium you can get everything at every place.

Re: Age restrictions

I have no problems getting a lighter where ever I go, because if they ask for ID, I just state that it isn't illegal for me to carry a lighter.

However I was once refused by a dude for trying to buy some smoke papers, I said, who said it's purpose is for smoking tobacco it could be used for art, but he didn't sell to me, I found it bullshit.

With the fuel, I went to the petrol station for my mum once when I was 14, and I bought a petrol tin to hold the fuel, went outside to the pumps to fill it up and the stupid bitch turned my pump off so I wouldn't be able to fill up my tin. I went inside and asked why she was being a dumb cunt, she said "Minimum age is 15" I said did you ask me for my age? I ended up saying I was 15 anyway and I left my ID at home :).

Re: Age restrictions

I think some things should be age restricted and some things not, a lighter is ridiculous. I wouldn't sell a lighter to, idk, a 7 year old, but damn, over 10 and you should be smart enough not to fuck shit up.

Even porn lol? :ninja:

Re: Age restrictions

I've bought alot of things without an ID,

-Fireworks
-Gasoline
-Air duster
-Screwdrivers (Almost everyone can)
-Lighters
-Spray paint

You may flame me for this but restrictions on spray paint, lighters, gasoline, fireworks, and airduster are there for a reason.
Some underage people set fires, use them for drugs or find some other idiotic way of abusing them.

I think you've lost one of the main points of this topic. The fact that these items are available literally anywhere, and yet there is still restrictions on buying them.

Of course there's restrictions on buying tobacco, but you can't get that anywhere. The restrictions we're on subject about are completely useless as well as highly annoying. I don't see how you could justify it further by "they're used for drugs" not only because the restrictions wont change a shit in the mud but because 80% or more of drugs are taken by people that are old enough to buy lighters.

Re: Age restrictions

Restrictions are dumb. You'll always find a way to buy/get the thing you want.

I was like 11 years old, and just wanted to smoke some cigarettes with a mate, just for fun. The age you can get it, is 16 years old, well what I did: "One packet Marlboro please." The woman who sells it; "For you?!" "Euhm, for my dad. ::)" "Ok, fine, here you go."

So it doesn't make sense.

Lol.

Re: Age restrictions

lmao Waffelz,

Here they always ask for an ID no matter who you are..

Re: Age restrictions

*70 year old woman walks into store*
Woman: May I have these cig- cigarettes please, young man?
Employee: May I see some ID?
Woman: Sorry, son, I left it at home.
Employee: Then how am I suppose to know your over 18?
