How torrents can ruin YOUR life...

Meet Sandy, a girl who was caught downloading CSI: Miami and got disconnected from the Internet by her ISP. And that’s only the beginning of her misfortune.

Flash forward another month and I get notified that I am being prosecuted for copyright infringement. Uh oh. I use the majority of my savings to retain an attorney. He advises me that we should try to cut a deal or I could end up paying millions in fines. I don’t have millions!
My boyfriend decides he doesn’t want to be involved with a criminal and leaves me. He didn’t seem to have a problem when I was downloading music for him. Hypocrite.

The rest of this horror story is posted under the pseudonym Sandy Johnson at a newly created blog. Interestingly all this drama didn’t deter her from using BitTorrent. However, she does TorrentPrivacy to protect herself now.

I have to admit that is quite fucked up. Not a long time ago, a guy was prosecuted for $675000 ($22500 per song) for downloading 30 songs (go ahead, download!) while a guy paid $222,000 in 2007 and $1,920,000 in 2009 for downloading 24 songs (there was some sort of court error).

The faggots behind this all are RIAA, MAFIAA (Music And Film Industry Association of America™) (what an ironic name) and some others. I wish those fuckers would get it into their heads that people are devoted even more. I'm never buying a single motherfucking game, movie or a CD anymore. NEVER.

Rofl! Not being raciest or anything okei maybe a little but notice that RIAA and MAFIAA are both "of american" companys.

Sorry, but where is the problem? Just don't download illegal copy protected things or you have to bear the consequences, even if the consequences are exaggerated.
Its an easy deal: If you ruin their business, they will ruin your life.

And games/cds/films aren't expensive, you don't need to buy the latest games. Wait until the game is sold as classic game for 10-30 €. (usually 2 years)
There are really good classic games, like GTA SA for 10 €.

wait 2 years until getting a good game that by then will be outdated?
wait 2 years until buying a record blasting hit CD that by then will be uncool?

downloading is cool and I download and so should you.
but you prolly live in some fucked up country so yeah.

If the developers etc wouldn't charge these rideciolus high prices I wouldn't mind buying it, but with these prices it's just impossible for me since I'm still young and dont have a job jet.

some lowlife nerd 40-year-olds create some fucking games and we have to pay for them? NO WAY FAGGOTZ!

That's 1 statement I don't agree with. The reason I'm breaking the law is because I like what these 40 year-old nerds are making. Same with you.

What now? Are they good games or bad games?
Please, chose some better arguments.. Your argument is not very accurate and can be applied to everything:
Why do you have to pay for fucking food/car/..? You would even download a car to drive with it if you could.
I also know many games which aren't outdated after 2 years. Some good games are getting patches for a long time and addons are available after a long time.
The modding world also needs at least 1/2 years to grow. Is GTA SA outdated?

Why is it uncool? Who cares about what is cool or uncool?

In my country they think (unfortunately) in the same way as you, Iam a exception. But it depends on the age. EVERY teenager and kiddy in my country is downloading illegally things, they even watch porn. They just don't care about anything. Adults are thinking differently. Well, they are downloading (sometimes) AND (usually) buying things. They think that it is a very unsocial behavior.
-> It doesn't depend on the country, it depends on the age/knowledge. Knowledge changes the mind.

Your problem is: You can't see beyond your own nose and you aren't able to see the situation from the point of view developer / producers.
But to help you to appreciate the work of the developers, how do you feel if someone steals the source of sfsf v2?
Its ok to download things you have to pay for, if you don't do it EVERYTIME and if you support them by buying. But: You have to live with the consequences.

Iam a bit mad because honest customers pay for the damage (SecuRom and other shit).

Actually my step dad asks me to download a movie whenever one he's interested in comes out. He's 50, not so much a kiddy IMO.
I think it depends on how you look at the world more then your age. Ofc age affects it, kiddys dont tend to give a shit about consequences.

I too download stuff. But I agree with Remis' opinion.

I feel bad for those artists etc. I would pay them if I had enough money for it.

Again my opinion is that that's how the business works in the 21st century... there's not much business for the artists. You either start being a dumbfuck getting companies with silly names like MAFIAA, IFPI and RIAA to present yourself and make poor housewifes pay you millions or college students pay you hundreds of thousands for 30 downloaded songs OR you accept it like very much modern artists do (moby for example).
Anyways even big companies that produce songs for Timbaland and Leona Lewis actually make it easy for people to steal your songs before the real release date - that is a good PR (public relations) stunt, don't you think?

Yeah got a point there.
But again, if in x years everybody will only download stuff...

How many artists will still be devoted to make music?

The ones that enjoy making music, the ones for who money is not the only thing about the business.
And someone once explained a good theory how recordsales can never start dropping to zero.

You have a point there.

But if I like an artist really really much, I'll buy their music.

That was 25% of the genial theory that I read.
It wasn't very much ago some Polish game developers found their game on The Pirate Bay, then the head developer registered and posted a comment saying thanks for giving his creation a little more publicy and said if people like the game, buy it. It didn't cost more than $25 he said and many people actually replied back that they bought or will buy the game.
