I'm guessing there was an old mine shaft, and somehow it got open again (maybe by a gas explosion)

Same guess here only i think it just fell through. I there there was no explosion it just randomly fell in

Yeah possibly, btw for all of you guys who type alot of spelling mistake, install an English dictionary plugin for your browser :wink: You can't make mistakes that way ^^
 
lol in the first pic imagin this:
