So, I've been watching a lot of anime recently, and I wanted to know your opinion.
What do you think of anime? Better or at least as good as "normal" western series? Or worse?
Also, what is your favorite? Any recommendations?

Personally, my favorites are Angel Beats! and Sword Art Online. The first has a short story arc, but is an awesome combination of action, humor, and it hits you right in the feels in the last few episodes. SAO has an amazing storyline, and has a great balance between humor and action.

Recommended are the two above and Elfen Lied. If you haven't watched it, go do it now. It's older, but great nonetheless.
 
My external HDD has about 625 GB of anime, which is 85 different series. Started watching actively somewhere October 2009.
Of course I watched stuff like Pokemon, DB/DBZ and stuff like that when I was young, but those were just cartoon to me back then, so I wouldn't count those.

At the moment I'm following ten series, which includes SAO. Also I hope you're actually downloading the episodes, instead of watching them with low quality on some website.



I would recommend Mushishi, which has quite calm atmosphere (but because of this it's really slow-paced), interesting story and cool main character. And if you're looking for westernish anime, you might like Cowboy Bebop, which is one of my favourites.
 
I don't really watch Anime, nor am I really interested in it, either. Would you count, for example, One Piece as anime? 'cause I fucking love One Piece!

Finished Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann last night, final episode was beyond epic.

And for Mauri (and Panki, if you read this), I have a question: any series you really recommend to watch? I know Mauri said Mushishi in the thread, and I'm going to watch it next week (waiting to get my HDD back), but I'm looking for something else.
 
Apparently you are more into action packed stuff. Remember to watch TTGL movies btw, those are more than beyond epic (basically whole anime packed in to two movies, but still is really, really awesome, also differs a little bit from the original).

Currently Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) is airing, and it's pretty good stuff. Also if you like faaabolous stuff, you should check JoJo's Bizarre Adventure as well.

May I also add PSYCHO-PASS, this aired last season, definitely worth watching.
 
Watched the first movie, I'll watch the second one tomorrow.

GOSICK reminded me of Dantalian no Shoka, but these are after misusers of the books which has special powers.
 
Hey, finally saw this.
I've watched TTGL until Ep. 16 where they made that timeskip... which just seems silly to me.
I've watched Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Highschool of the Dead (I know...), Hellsing, Black Lagoon and EVA.
My fave is still Black Lagoon, but I'd also recommend FMA:B and Hellsing.
 
FMA is on my to-watch-list, Black Lagoon is one of my favorites as well. That timeskip in TTGL is actually pretty awesome (imo) as you see everyone in new roles that seem fitting somehow. Also, the story takes a crazy turn after that.

HotD is fun to watch wasted, as Japanese can even make a zombie apocalypse into a semi-porn.

Is Hellsing really good? I've seen some bits of it and it seems... odd.

I can also advise Girls Und Panzer. Gang of girls go to a school in a world were shooting each other with tanks in the national sport. Seems crazy but is quite funny.

Mein neger, I like you. Already watched the series and now waiting for OVAs.

You really should watch FMA:B, since it's more closer to manga than the original FMA (though it was semi-good as well). Also I just watched the first episode of Gosick, looks promising.
 
Only just started watching GuP, will watch it in the week. Hell, I might even get my gf to like anime. She liked Gosick anyway.

Only thing about Gosick is that on the end they kinda mess with the timeline of history. Not exactly disturbing, but it just something that you immediately notice.
 
You fucks, I wanted to finish Ghost in the Shell SAC, but now I reaaaaaaaaally want to watch GuP! /a/ goes nuts over it aswell.
Hellsing has a pretty interesting story to it, the OVA Hellsing Ultimate is even better

OH SHIT I almost forgot Steins;Gate! Go watch that shit if you haven't. Seriously it's 10/10 and there will be more soon.
On an unrelated sidenote: what the fuck is wrong with End of Evangelion?
 
Apparently Steins:Gate is the sequel to Chaos;Head, for the ones interested.

Haven't seen Evangelion yet, don't know what you are talking about...

I also found an anime of Devil May Cry. Gonna watch it, just for the heck of it.

I'm at the last episode already, and the last 2 nights I've been dreaming of Panzer.
 
Finally finished GuP too, ending was... obvious.
Devil May Cry anime is surprisingly fun to watch, not a great storyline, but just fun to see Dante hack up demons like a badass.

I also found this. An anime about two angels who use their underwear as weapons to fight ghosts, with a black priest who likes BDSM, as tutor. I swear, like every 15 seconds there is a reference to sex. Idiotic storyline, but hilarious to watch while stoned or drunk.

I'm also starting on Another, anyone ever seen it?
 
I've watched both of those long time ago, pretty good stuff.

Also I just noticed that I'm actually following 13 series this season, dayum.
