"Assassinate the crocodile" sounds interesting.

Known so far:

General

  • AC4 leads are working on this, most of the AC4 team
  • you're gonna start hearing from ubi at the end of this month, promo material is beign sent out right now.
  • full reveal at e3
  • 'it feels like a mix between a traditional AC & AC4'
Story

  • it has a modern day aspect
  • Desmond Miles is not returning
  • it is said that the game has smaller segments that take place in different times; the setting is the same though. a bit hard to exaplin without going into the story
Engine

  • a revamped version of the Anvil Engine
  • changes were made to make seamless transitions between cities/sea possible

And apparently, "The Crocodile" is not a Templar, as some thought. It's an actual animal, in the tutorial part, I'm guessing, that you have to kill.
And AC4 influences is good. It's my favorite in the series by far.

I was hoping it'd just be the animal.

Graphics in the last couple of AC games have always been amazing, if they'd render, anyway. Hopefully the "revamped Anvil engine" means it will be as stable as gorgeous.
